Tequisquiapan is located in the southeastern part of the state of Queretaro, two hours north of Mexico City, 20 minutes from San Juan del Rio, and 45 minutes from the city of Queretaro, at an altitude of 1,880 meters (6,200 feet), with about 55,000 inhabitants.

Its geographic location makes it convenient to many other popular sites:
